Growing up as a youth soccer player in Utah, USA, I never had the opportunity to get consistent keeper training. Even if it was available, the cost associated with it would have made it impossible for me to participate.
This left me to sort things out mostly by myself, resulting in a lot of trial and error, allowing silly goals, and taking unnecessary injuries throughout my playing career.
Over time I was able to find my own solutions and make it work, and had some success as a player. Once I began coaching, I made it my mission to increase opportunities for young athletes to have affordable, quality keeper training. From the very beginning, I wanted to change the landscape of goalkeeper training in terms of quality and availability in the area where I grew up and still live today.
Now, I'm ready to expand this offering to goalkeepers around the world.
Anyone - goalkeeper, parent, or coach - who wants to learn about the goalkeeper position will get real, actionable education in this course.
And it's true, there are other good online courses out there that provide long lists of drills for keepers to do on their own. The problem with most of these courses is that...
Instead, they put emphasis only on practicing specific techniques.
But what good are the skills if you don't understand when to implement them? Or how to decide which technique to use? Or why you're doing it one way instead of another?
After over a decade of training goalkeepers in person, I want to extend this learning opportunity to goalkeepers all over the world. And not just the athletes, but their parents and coaches too.
Keeper College has been created with education in mind - it's not just a huge set of drills to do, leaving you on your own to try and figure it out. In this course I walk you through the things a goalkeeper needs to begin mastering in order to begin a virtuous cycle of improvement and success: the how, when, and why of the goalkeeper fundamentals.
And after I break it down for you, you'll see that while the process of mastering these skills may not be easy, it is simple.
When it comes to goalkeeper fundamentals,
THERE ARE 4 AREAS YOU NEED TO MASTER:
FOOTWORK + POSITIONING
Goalkeeping begins with footwork. If you aren't in the right position, it's going to be hard to make saves. Your ability to relocate based on what you see in the game directly affects your ability to do your job. Efficient feet and accurate reads make an efficient goalkeeper.
CATCHING
Taking a ball cleanly out of the air is critical to not giving up rebounds and being able to start your team's counter-attack. This is about more than your hands though - your ability to come to balance and establish a consistent body shape will impact how well you can catch the ball.
DIVING
When the ball is outside your standing bubble, you may need to dive. This is where keepers who have no training can start experiencing real injuries. But for keepers who master the fundamentals of diving, these saves are usually what get cheers from the sidelines.
DISTRIBUTION
Once you have the ball in your hands, what's next? Getting the ball to your teammates accurately and efficiently will allow your team to quickly transition to the attack. Knowing the different methods and when to use them will make all the difference.
When you complete Keeper College, you will know more about goalkeeping than you ever have before, guaranteed.
A serious review of the material I'll share in this course will change the way you approach the goalkeeper position, whether you are a player, parent, or coach. This is a game changer!
Guaranteed, or I'll make it right.
